One Year Old Photo Shoot

July 19th, 2012

Dylan at one year is crawling, pulling up on everything, cruising along the TV stand while watching TV, teething all the time, waving bye bye, clapping, pointing, and babbling away.  He says bye bye, hi, dada, and mama.  He loves to imitate sneezing and copies us using the remote control to the TV.  He still loves his Baby Einstein and watches it every morning and evening before bed.

He sleeps 12 hours a night and still loves his naps, taking a 1 hour nap in the morning and 2-2.5 hours in the afternoon.  We have cut down to 3 bottles a day but will shortly go to the sippy cup.

He weighs 21.5 lbs (25 percentile) and 2ft. 6in. tall (50 percentile).  He hasn't gained much weight but has gotten a lot taller.

He has four teeth now, two top teeth, two bottom teeth and those top teeth were brutal.

Another talented friend and colleague here in Singapore offered to take some pictures for us.  I think they turned out great!  This was just in our back yard and with our favorite furry friend!

Trip to the Great Barrier Reef

 July 25th-August 1st: Brisbane-Cairnes-Port Douglas, Australia

Little man got to spend his real birthday in the land down under.  We met Dirk's parents', grandma and grandpa in Port Douglas, Australia.

This had been the toughest trip we have taken with him yet.  There were two flights and a 24 hour layover and Dylan was teething, sick, and not happy. I think we will stick to short 2-3 hour direct flights now, but cutting your top teeth on holiday can never be fun.

He did manage to go on his first all day boat ride while Dirk and I went scuba diving, saw a koala for the first time, and I mentioned that top tooth coming in.  Great milestones for your first birthday!

Roaming around a Brisbane park talking to all the Uni students!
Making friends as usual

Passed out on his first major boat ride.
He stayed on the boat while mommy & daddy dove and grandpa and grandma snorkeled.

More Friends in the USA

We were really busy while we were back, trying to get to see everyone in 8 weeks!  It was a fun time catching up but different this time with a little man in tow.

I didn't even get to take pictures of half the people we saw and some were my most favorite people.  We got to see Beth & Jared Robinson a couple of time and Sarah Burke even flew in to meet the little man! The whole Maxie neighborhood crew and lots more!!

We got to see some small friends and big friends, so blessed to have so many in our lives at home.  Miss you all!

Traveling home to Singapore

May 8th, 2012

Headed back to Singapore... wow it was so much easier than going.  Dylan slept most of the time in his carseat and we had three seats to ourselves.  Daddy took both flights on baby duty but was able to sleep, eat, and watch movies without any problems.

It was so much easier transitioning to Singapore time too!  It only took about three days total.  Coming home is so much easier, must remember this next time.

So this is Russia?

Hanging out in the Moscow airport with Phil & Daddy!
Making friends in the airport... such a social butterfly!
All packed up in Houston!
3AM coffee in Singapore, jet lag anyone?
Are we home yet?

Baptism at First United Methodist Church Katy

April 29th, 2012: Katy, Texas

We decided to baptize Dylan while we were home for a number of reasons, close to family, didn't really have a church we called home in Singapore, and the pastor that married us could do it, Marlin Finn.

Uncle Ryan flew in for the baptism, our good friends from Singapore, the Kirkham family showed support, and my uncle Jan and cousin Natalie drove in from San Antonio.  Dirk's parents also drove in from San Antonio and it was so nice having so much family support.  My mom had just had cataract surgery plus a corneal transplant on April 4th so she was still healing but made it a special day for Dylan anyway.

Michelle Bruce monogramed Dylan's outfit with a D.R.D. and we are so thankful for thoughtful friends who care so much for our little man.

Dylan did great during the ceremony and almost made it to the end without breaking down but it was nap time and boy was he tired.

I will always remember this day.  Not only did Dylan get welcomed into a church home, we met some important people who introduced us to our new friends the Paulsen's in Singapore.  I will also remember this day because it was the last time I saw my uncle before he was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer.
